'How Your Items Are Made?’

Furnace of Fire Triptych Commission Fluid Art on Canvas

I make your items from my small studio in the North of Auckland. All of my creations are handcrafted and unique. That’s the beauty of acrylic pour.

The key to successful acrylic pouring is the consistency of the paint. While fluid acrylics have a high viscosity, I also still add that little something to create the exact consistency I require. The little something is called Floetrol which is a water-based paint conditioner that helps improve the paint flow and workability of the paint for pouring. Some artists use glue, silicon, and oils ranging from motor oil to coconut oil to create cells however, I find that metallic paints and Floetrol give me the compositions that I am looking for.

Blow & Spin

2 of my favourite techniques with fluid art!

I love creating coaster art and the black really does make the purple pop, do you think?

Funnel Pour

Which artist’s vinyl would you be prepared to pour paint on?

Fun funnel pour on this 12-inch vinyl record.

I will wait to see the dry and resined piece before I decide if this will be framed for hanging or if I turn it into a wall clock.

Wall Art

I like to experiment with different pour techniques and my current paints of choice are Liquitex, Amsterdam, Arteza, DecoArt, and Reeves. Each creation takes approximately a month from pour to completion (including dry and cure time and the final seal).

As a sustainable artist, the environment is important to me and so I use any excess wall art paint to create fun, fabulous and funky, unique products, in my collection.

‘No paint is wasted in the pouring process.’

Wearable Art

I recycle the ‘run off’ paint from my canvas and vinyl wall art pours to create both acrylic paint skins and dipped glass domes/cabochons which I love to use for other projects such as stunning and unique jewellery pieces. I also re-cycle items such as yogurt pots, takeaway coffee cups, jars and tins (all clean, of course) to help with the paint pouring process.

Gift Art

I am extremely interested in sustainable practices and I love to upcycle; items such as glass and ceramic coasters and vases. I consider the wider impact my work has on the environment and I am mindful of reducing waste, reusing and recycling.
