'Orchid In Bloom' Acrylic On Canvas
A ‘Dutch pour,’ is an acrylic pouring technique that uses air to move the paints on a canvas. You can use a hairdryer, straw and lungs/mouth, or anything that blows air.
For this piece, I wanted pure negative space, which is the area around the main focal point of the painting; the ‘space between the petals of a flower.’
I chose the purples, lilacs, a little teal and magenta, to make a contrast between negative and positive space, drawing the eyes to this stunning and striking bloom style composition. I decided upon the 'titanium white' negative space to evoke a feeling of softness, beauty and sophistication.
These particular pours are known for the ribbon-like edges and cell lacing that can be achieved using this technique. My short video, below, shows more detail about this composition.
"A beautiful, airy and soft composition, which would be a real focal piece in any home or office space."
Canvas Size: Approx 45 x 60 cm (18 x 24 inch)
