'Purple Pandemonium' Fluid Art On Canvas
'Purple Pandemonium' has been created by carefully and thoughtfully blowing the paint across the canvas using a hairdryer ('dutch' pour). By leaving, 'negative space,' (white) an amazing and beautiful composition is created. This is called a ‘Dutch pour,’ which is an acrylic pouring technique that uses air to move the paints on a canvas. You can use a hairdryer, straw and lungs/mouth, or anything that blows air.
For this piece, I wanted pure negative space, which is the area around the main focal point of the painting.
I chose the purples, lilacs, shades of blue and metallic gold, to make a contrast between negative and positive space, drawing the eyes to this stunning and striking composition. I decided upon the split base colours of ‘lilac’ and ‘black’ to add more depth and interest.
These particular pours are known for the ribbon-like edges and cell lacing that can be achieved using this technique.
